The Self-Help Center provides the resources citizens need to better understand the legal process and/or represent themselves in a court case. In addition to the Services and Resources listed below, the Center provides the services of the Family Law Facilitator and Small Claims Advisor.
We are a walk in clinic. All services are free of charge and offered on a first come/first served basis. We do charge a small fee for copies and form packets.
Services to residents of Truckee or Sierra Counties are available by phone. Please call the number shown to the right and leave a specific question for one of our staff. If you have a case number, that is also helpful information. We attempt to return calls within one week.
The Self-Help Center also provides information and education on Alterntive Dispute Resolution. This alternative form of civil litigation is less formal, less expensive and often a faster method to resolve a conflict between two parties.
Services and Resources we provide:The Self Help Center and Family Law Facilitator provide general information to anyone in the public and also to those who have legal issues buy would like to explore acting as their own lawyer. These individuals are commonly referred to as a"self-represented or "pro-per" litigant (latin for "for one's self"). Cases and legal issues we can providce help with include (but not limited to):
Information is available in the form of books, packets and brochure. We also provide computers with full interenet access to access a number of online legal research and self-help websites.
